[ In time, Don will come to know. Rosie had probably only ever seen Thor once or twice. When he'd blow on the horn to hurry Loki up or walk in and pull his brother out with a wide grin. At least before the big blow up. ]
Fast fashion is when they take the latest trends and mass produce them even without much interest for them. It wastes a lot of resources and hurts the environment. And before you say it, yes, I know my car hurts it too, but not as much as a landfill full of Gucci shirts. [ Loki explained, clearly an argument he had had before. Yet he sounded amused as he alternated drinks between his water and coffee. Clearly the painkillers or water was helping. He seemed amused all the same. ] Oh, not at all, we get on alright, but we are practically strangers. I know my brother-in-law better than her, all she cares about is her job.
[ All three of the Odinson siblings were career focused, Loki just didn't rant about work outside of work, unless his father pissed him off. ] Of course, a gentlemen's bet. I can't always con you into feeding me, Don. You might think I was using you for your cooking.
[ A playful response as he pushed a lock of his hair back into place. The cougars would be waiting, but, were they really cougars to Don? He may be their age or older. Either way, Loki was looking forward to seeing how tonight goes.
The sound of the boys chatting and playing with Fenrir got louder as the puppy was leading them upstairs, in the corner of the dinning room attached was a basket full of the dogs toys. ] If you play with the ball, take it in the backyard.
[ That was the only rule he gave. He had far too much glass for that. But fen loved his tennis balls and playing fetch. A deck was beside the counter where Don and Loki were leaning that they could use to get to the back yard if they didn't run back downstairs.
Looking back to Don he nodded.]
As I was saying, absolutely, Don, I would love that.
'mnot sayin' a word! [Don laughs over the lip of his mug, taking sips while he listens to his lesson. See - this is good. Casual conversation. And yes, he does spy Loki hydrating like he's supposed to. All is well.] Eh - some people are married to their work. It happens. [A rather pointed look in Loki's direction. Sure he doesn't talk about work much... but there are signs. As if Don could get away with it either. He's the one running his own business solo...
Maybe they're both guilty of working too much.]
But what if I like feeding you? [A slight frown.] Don't exactly get any sorta feedback from my kids. They just eat or don't. Kinda thankless once I think about it. [He feigns thinking, leaning back against the counter, looking up towards the ceiling.] ...Yeah they'd rather just have pizza every meal. Zero appreciation for a good filet mignon prepared just right.
[He grins a bit at that, turning away to top off his mug with a bit more coffee from the pot. It's still pretty warm. Good enough.
But then there's the commotion from nearby and he adds to Loki's announcement:] Yeah guys. Go on outside. This ain't your house. We're company here.
[Kevin and Sean are so quick to do as they're told, saying thanks as they rush on by with the dog on their heels. Don rolls his eyes a bit, but ends up laughing anyway as they head out onto the deck. His gaze lingering on the door and the playful scene.]
They love him so much. [His expression softens, and then he turns back to rejoin the conversation.] Okay. It's a plan, then. We can do that.
Mmhm. [ He doesn't believe Don, but the comeback is playful. Maybe if he had Don around in the mornings, his minions would not think he was the devil at work. Arching a brow at the look Don gave him and that comment. ] Pot meets Kettle, much?
[ Loki KNOWS Don works too hard. Another drink of his water before he offered a smile Don's way. ] How can I say no to that? They might not appreciate that, but I certainly do. One day they will learn what they are missing, for now, I am happy to offer feedback.
[ Which was, usually, just reaching for more of something. As skinny as he is, he eats a lot. ] I'm not that picky, I just don't want the glass broken. Might be nice to have a bit of a mess here. [ He wants his home to feel lived in. Don's house has the most inviting feeling. Probably Rosie's touch, but Don gets credit. ] They do, and I for one am happy for it. They have the energy to keep up with him.
[ Loki wasn't low energy at all, but those boys? They have energy to spare. ] I will send you more information when I gather some. For now, I offered to show you around, but this is mostly it. Though, I could show you upstairs if you want? Lovely view up there.
[Okay, okay. It was a low blow and he knows it. The workaholics are in the kitchen right now aren't they? Don just grins.]
Great! You're also signing up to be my guinea pig by the way. Because I wanna try some new stuff in the new year. Been checking out a lot of cooking sites lately.
[He rolls his eyes at the glass comment.] And I don't want them to break any glass - believe me. I deal with enough of that at home. You don't need them comin' in here like a coupla tornadoes. It's rude. They should know better.
[But yeah. At least Fenrir loves them, and they love Fenrir. And their growing friendship is more than adorable to witness in real time. Maybe he was being a jerk not letting his kids have their own dog when they asked...]
Sure, yeah. Whatever you want. Lemme just - [He holds up his mug, then takes a final sip before leaving it behind on the counter. Near a rather familiar-looking box. He's surprised he didn't notice it before - the tea box he had given Loki for Christmas. It makes him smile, but he says nothing. Just follows his friend wherever he leads.]
Don, the day I say no to your cooking, I will give you my doctor's number. Call and have me committed. [ He teased playfully. Yeah, he's feeling better. And no, he wasn't actually giving Don his doctor's number. Not when he's sure his doctor and Don know each other, absolutely not.
Shaking his head he kept his cup as he pushed off the counter. He didn't expect Don to put his down either. But the tea was there, he had found a place for it the moment he got home. Leading them through the kitchen to the dining room. Heavy drapes hid the large windows, the space rather dark compared to the rest. ] This was orginally the sitting room, but as you saw, I have that downstairs, more space, and easier for Fenrir to run as he wishes.
[ Loki didn't want Don to think he thought the boys would break anything so he just let that go. He knew how he was as a boy and that was enough.] Up these stairs is the third floor. Come along, the laundry is up here in case you end up needing it. Fenrir can get quite muddy and likes to jump.
[ Don clearly knew that by now, Fenrir had a habit for finding mud. The steps were black with dark wood.
This stairwell seemed to be the only place with photographs instead of art or Thors jersey. A few pictures on the wall leading up. The first one, is clearly him and Frigga at his college graduation. She was in a stunning gold dress, kissing his cheek. His hair short with his natural dark wild curls. A few feet higher, was him and Thor, teenagers and blond haired and tanned, a beach trip. Arms throw over each other's shoulders grinning, looking mischievous as hell.
Further up is a selfie, Loki with his hair about shoulder-length, wavy, and blond. Loki was clearly much younger, leaning his head against Rosie smiling up at the camera. She looked happy too, clearly having just laughed at something. In the fourth and final picture at the top of the stairs, he was standing with Thor, Frigga kneeled between them wearing a floral sundress. Both looked between ten and twelve. Loki's short dark hair contrasting with Frigga and Thor's blond. Both boys in matching suits with a school emblem on them, Frigga looking proud as she held her sons. Thor looked excited, while Loki looked subdued.
Reaching the top of the steps he stepped aside waiting for Don. Taking a drink of his coffee, a door behind him, which was the mentioned laundry room. Another sign of life? There was a sock stuck under the door where Loki had kicked it closed earlier. Two other doors could be seen right away at the top of the stairs. One open, dark green paint visable, and another the door closed. ]
[What a compliment! It makes Don smile and turn away slightly to try and hide it, but there's no way to distract from just how bright it is. Total sunshine. He knows his cooking is alright, and the fact that Loki never turns it down... it brings him joy, makes him want to get better and try new things. Motivation in its purest form.
As Loki shows him around the house, he notices just how spacious it is. Nothing seems cramped in the slightest, probably from how neat and tidy everything's kept. Makes sense since Loki's the only person who lives here.
He stays close, only straying once they climb the stairs to the third floor. He stops to look at the pictures lining the walls, stops to look at the photo Loki's kept of himself and his wife. He'd never seen it before, and it brings a sad-looking smile to his face. There are still so many photos of her around the Marcus house - he can still feel her presence there despite it all. But he didn't expect to see her here. It's nice a surprise, and it also makes his heart ache.
He's lagged behind. He doesn't realize it at first, then hurries the rest of the way up the stairs as Loki waits for him on the landing, and he mumbles an apology. Then he tries covering everything up with a few compliments about how nice his house is.]
[ It was a shame Loki had looked away and missed that smile, it would have been perfect to add to the collection of Don smiles that warm him when he's sad or alone. Don's cooking and friendship were worth more than all the money in the world to him. He would always encourage whatever makes Don happy, the man is sunshine, he deserves all the happiness he can have despite the loss of Rosie.
Loki's house is spacious and neat, but it's not what he enjoys, it is only this way for the rare company he keeps. The den had been busy the day before Don and the boys arrived, but Loki straightened it up. There are small signs on the first and third floor of life, not much on the second.
Loki realized when it took Don a moment what he was lingering for. He was holding his coffee cup as Don finally hurried up. Placing a hand on his shoulder, with a gentle squeeze. Don didn't have to say a word, Loki knew. She held the space of best friend before Don. At least to Loki. ] No need to apologize, I have a few others somewhere around here.
[ As soon as he says it, his mind fills in, probably on his laptop, who knows where his photo album is. ] Oh, yes, this door behind me is the laundry. [ He forgot to clean that up, which is why that sock is under the door. He'll handle that later, motioning to the cracked open door.] This one is my room.
[ He nudged it open but didn't walk in. The bed was unmaid, and two different shirts on hangers were still laid at the end of the bed. Embaressing for him, but this was Don, so it didn't sting that bad. ] And if you would like, Jor is right in here, I can let you in, I trust you not to look at the papers on my desk.
[ The door across the hall was where he was motioning now. He expected a no, but still, he had to offer if only to see how Don reacted to his sweet boy.]
It’s nice. That you have photos of her. [Don’s smile turns into more of a forced one. He’s trying to get rid of that sad sack look on his face he knows is there.
The hand on his shoulder is helping immensely. But there’s also the slightest tightness in his chest? A bit of a flutter? He must be tired or something. Maybe the caffeine’s a bit too much.]
Laundry, got it. [Making a mental note in case of emergency. Always a good thing to know where the machines are.
He peeks around Loki’s shoulder, not wanting to overstep too much. It’s a decent enough view with the door only being partially open. There’s barely enough room for the both of them on the landing to begin with - he doesn’t want to crowd.]
Now that’s a room fit for a king. How’s the mattress? You got one of those really fancy ones? [Probably. Don’s asking just to ask, to fill the void. Plus the space looks incredibly cozy.
He freezes up at the mention of the snake, copying Loki’s gesture towards the other door with one of his own.]
In there? He’s… contained, right? [JUST CHECKING, OKAY? He can handle snakes if they’re not out and about.
It helps me to remember her, she was one of my finest friends. [ Loki admitted, most didn't get it, many assumed the worst of his friendship with the married woman, but she was special, and he would do anything to help keep her memory alive. ]
Yes, I have no idea why they put the machines there, makes no sense, but it was how it has always been. [ He explained, a little amused by the oddities of his home more than not. Looking over at the cracked door, nudging it open more with one of those long legs of his, letting Don see more. ] Pardon the mess, but I can not complain. As for the type, I do not know. Like most of my furniture, my mother bought it. She had a field day decorating before I had the chance to even settle in.
[ Loki spoke it like it didn't bother him, but Don probably could tell by the look in his eye. So much of his mothers touch all over his home, and yet, he didn't change it.
Moving around Don as he let go of his shoulder, to open the office door, it gave a little more room for them. ] Yes, Don, he is in his vivarium, he can't be free, Fenrir would be a danger to him.
[ Loki explained as he stepped inside the office. It had the same dark green paint that his bedroom had. The two rooms complimenting one another. The office was smaller though, the desk an old style wooden desk that had beautiful carvings along it, a tall chair behind it facing the open windows. His laptop open and desk covered with papers. True signs of life in here. Across from the desk was a converted curio cabinet. ]
Come, you don't have to touch him, and I will leave him inside, but this is Jormungandr. [ Most might expect Loki to have a terrifying snake, but no, the creature inside the tank peered out from his hiding place, ignoring Don to look at his owner. ] Don't give me those eyes, sir. I feed you yesterday. [ Looking to Don, Loki smiled. ] I promise he is well-behaved.
[Don gets it. He didn't at first, but he does now. It's never bothered him, never been an issue. He's just glad someone else cared about her as much as he did - as much as he still does, really, even after her being gone so long.]
...You call this a mess? Sheesh. [A playful jab accompanied by an even more playful smile.] I don't mind it at all.
[He shrugs.] Hey - as long as it's comfy. [He may or may not be in the market for a new one himself. Pesky back. Annoying hip. He's getting too old for this...]
She's got a good eye. All this really suits you.
[He lets Loki step into the office first, staying out on the landing for a few moments. Hesitant. Like - he really doesn't want to go in there. But he does - eventually, casting a wary eye over towards said vivarium.
Don jumps as soon as he notices the snake peeking out. Nope - no thank you. Just gonna stay back here, far and away (yet still in the room).]
[ Even with his crush on Don, Loki had no intention of ever forgetting Rosie. She was wonderful and deserved the world.
The playful jab gets Don a look. It's just as playful. ] Come now, the clothes on the bed? It will ruin the image you have of me.
[ Teasing, mostly, Don didn't need to know he had tried on more than one suit today to make sure he looked stunning for the man. ] It is, next time I change the sheets I will send you the name if you wish.
[ Part of him wanted to offer to let Don try it, but that would just fuel him with more images than he could really ask for. He has considered Don in his bed more than once. ] Do you think so? I feel like it is rather… stiff? I don't know how to describe it.
[ Loki can tell Don is nervous when he enters, stepping closer, a hand rested on Don's lower back in an attempt at comfort. ] He is, but he is also harmless. He has a kind temperament, and mostly loves his heat lamp and watching television. Again, the boys don't need to know he's here, and I understand if he frightens you. I just wanted to have you meet the second of my beloved pets.
Oh no not the clothes on the bed. [That makes him laugh. Good job, Lokes.]
It's no rush. Just - whenever. Got a few other things I need to take care of around the house before I can splurge on a present for myself. [That's what happens when you're a single father of two.]
...Cold and distant? [Don offers, along with a helpless shrug of his shoulders.] Usually people don't go for dark colors since they make rooms seem smaller but... green's your fave so it suits you. [He doesn't know how to elaborate more than that unfortunately.]
And the furniture's quite ornate and regal? Also suits you. [He's trying here. Rosie was the one with the eye for style. Everything Don knows he learned from her. Loki has money, enjoys the more high-end things. That much he's gathered. So it only makes sense his home matches those sensibilities, even if his mother was the one who insisted on decorating the place.]
He's... cute? [Possibly? Don isn't sure how to respond in a way that doesn't reflect his general distaste of snakes. He jolts slightly at the initial touch of Loki's hand, but he doesn't shy away. He just takes a deep breath, lets it out, settles. He's fine.
Don dares to take a step forward, and he's craning his neck to get a better look at the creature while keeping a respectable distance.]
[ That laugh? Totally worth it, even if Loki arches a brow and plays offended for a split second before his grin returns. ]
Absolutely understandable, but I will still handle that next time, lest I forget. [ He was only forgetful with the trivial things like that.
Jormundur just being a sweet lad lifts his head and yawns. He has no huge fangs or anything, but Loki knows this is usually when people scream. His hand still on the small of Don's back.] Why thank you, I am quite proud of him. It seems, though, that he is tired today. We can let him rest more.
[ Loki spoke at the yawn, as the snake lowered his head back down on his warm rock. As Loki looked around his pace taking in what Don had noticed about his phone, waiting for Don to move, he'd move his hand off his back when Don moved for the door. ] I do think you hit the nail on the head, it is rather cold, not nearly as bad as the family home, but still, detached.
As for the green, I insisted. She wanted a lighter green, but I put my foot down. This is a lovely shade. [ No denying it's his favorite. It is. ] I suppose when we get downstairs, we should look into making sure we are prepared before we call the Uber.
[Don doesn't scream. There's the slightest flinch when Jor opens up his mouth, but that's it. Consider this a rather successful first meeting.]
Hope you get your beauty rest, lil' bud. [He says this with a smile - a rather reluctant one, but it still counts dammit.
The quicker Don is out of the room the sooner he can get back to breathing. So he wastes zero time scooting to the door.]
It's a nice green. Perfect for winter. Makes you wanna curl up under a ton of blankets in that fancy bed of yours. [Wait! A thought.] No wonder you picked it.
[He's all smiles, thoroughly distracted from the snake. Thank goodness.]
Is it time already? Sure does fly when you're having fun.
[ The fact that Don didn't scream, had a softer look crossing Loki's face. He knew Don was scared of snakes. The man didn't have to tell him for Loki to piece it together, but to be fearful but still so kind to his little Jormungandr meant the world to Loki. ]
I am certain he will, he must rest for his midday snooze.
[ A reference to an old show he watched as a kid while in boarding school, but he didn't expect Don to know Red Dwarf. Closing the door behind them, as he followed Don back onto the landing. ] I can't lie, I do love doing that. That is part of why my game systems are downstairs. Lest I stay in bed all day Sunday.
[ A playful tease, while he tried not to picture himself snuggled with Don under the large weighted blanket. ]
We have about a half hour before we have to leave, but we need time for the driver to get here and to get Fenrir settled. Though, I agree, this and tonight will fly by.
Midday snooze, huh? This guy's got it made. [Don doesn't get the reference, but just the idea of being able to nap at some point during the day... Yeah that sounds real amazing to him.]
True yeah. [He nods a bit, then takes it upon himself to start heading down the stairs first. Talking as he goes, a hop in his step along the way.] I gotta motivate myself to get outta bed on Sundays too. Usually the boys let me sleep in a little. They can handle breakfast themselves now that they're old enough.
[Once he hits the kitchen, he goes for a refill of his coffee.]
That sounds like too much fun once you put it that way... [He laughs a little, slipping some sugar into his mug and giving it a stir. Imagine - having fun. He hasn't done that in a while. But he's been getting to that point. It seems like he's always having at least some sort of fun when he's with Loki.]
Of course, he does, I aim to spoil everything that is mine. [ Maybe not the best words to use when he is taking Don and his kids to a high-end party just so they get a nice view of the ball drop, but it was true. Almost making a mental note to show Don Red Dwarf next time he spends a night on Don's couch. ]
I knew you would understand. [ Loki replies as he walks with Don down the steps even if he doesn't need too. ] That is very sweet of them, I am glad to hear you get some kind of break now and then. You certainly deserve it with all you do.
[ When Don refills his coffee, Loki finishes his and rinses the cup before its put in the dishwasher that blends into the cabinets. Taking out his phone he looked over the app, before slipping his phone away. A grin offered Don's way before he went to the back door to whistle for Fenrir, the boys following the dog as Loki lead him over to his big dog bed and kneeled to give him some love. Letting Don know when the driver would arrive.
Loki worked on calming Fenrir, Gwen already knew she had to come around ten and give the puppy a sedative since the fireworks would frighten him while home alone. Luckily, she didn't mind. By the time the driver arrived, Loki was heading back down the steps to meet them. Clearly going out the door he had led them into. His hair freshly styled and a different pair of shoes on. Once they were out, the car was waiting and Loki locked up behind them. It was only a block or two to the train station, but it was cold and worth it to be driven there.
Well yeah. They're like your kids. The furbaby and-- [A pause, and then some thinking out loud as he holds his mug up near his mouth but doesn't take a sip yet.] What would the snake be? A scalebaby? Reptilebaby? [And he chuckles a little, finally sipping.] Jor the Scalebaby...
[He shrugs off the comment about deserving a break now and then. He knows he does, but can't afford the luxury. So he just deals with it.
Once Fen is called inside and the boys are corralled too, Don does the dad thing and checks in with them, listening to all they have to say (which is a lot) and then make sure they know exactly how much time they've got left before everyone needs to leave. Coats on, please be on your best behavior - the whole nine yards.
The sun's already started going down, and it's colder than it was on their way over. So the Uber is a nice idea after all, even though the station isn't too too far away for them to walk to. Hopefully it doesn't snow later. That would just make things even more freezing to deal with. Possibly slushy. Here he goes thinking of the worst possible situation first thing like he always does. There's no way to turn that part of his brain off.
Don isn't going to pretend he knows the first thing about how public transit works, especially in the city. It's been ages for him. So he makes sure to boys stick close and that they all follow Loki's lead until they're huddled in the car.]
I quite like the sound of scalebaby. I think we have a winner.
[ Loki teased before they went to separate directions to get ready.
Standing outside as the Escalate pulled up, Loki paying a little more for the bigger car given there are four of them. All four getting in, the boys first, obviously. The driver didn't have too far to take them, but it was better than trekking through the cold. Loki had even tugged his heavy coat with him, a furred collar and gloves on as well. ]
We are heading to time square, the 42nd Street station. [ Loki explained. ] Just follow my lead, I take this train often. I also took care of getting the cards for you and the boys when I came home on Friday night.
[ Reaching into his coat, he pulled three out, paper temp passes, and holding them to Don. ] All things depending, we should be there within the hour. We will be fashionably late.
Fashionably late sure seems like a you sorta thing. [He comments this with a smile, giving a slight nod as he takes the passes and transfers them to his own pocket. No way are the boys holding theirs. He'll take responsibility. They're too busy looking out the windows to notice anyway.]
Thanks for takin' care of that. Appreciate it.
[There are trace flurries coming down from the darkening winter sky by the time they leave the car and head underground to catch their train. It's warm in the cars, just enough so they don't have to huddle together much. But it's busy and there are plenty of people heading to and from their own New Years' festivities that the lack of room prevents them from straying too far. All the better to keep the boys in his sight, really. They don't have the distraction of their video games for once.]
Oh it is, it is better than admitting I am often late as I do not want to go half the time. [ He teased lightly, as the Uber was hurrying them to the station. Once Don had the tickets in his pockets, and they had stepped out Loki lead the way down into the train station.
Helping to corral the boys onto the train. The train was busy of course, so he expected the boys to take the remaining seats and maybe even Don, but Loki stood, he was used to it. Casual conversion as they rode their way down town, with a possible transfer.
Loki's timeline proved accurate as they arrived at the final stop, and he led them into the party quickly after. His coat and theirs hands over. A few introductions made, no one here worked with Loki. Hell the host only knew him from college, it's clearly he was invited because of his money, which was half the reason he brought them.
Of course, he had beeen correct that once the liquor started to flow that a few older women were zeroing in on Don. Loki had been true to his work and was sober tonight. Now and then looking to Don, or hanging near the windows watching the fireworks with the boys. ]
[At first Don brushes off the offer to sit. He doesn't need to. He's perfectly fine with standing by and holding onto the rail. That decision is quickly retconned once the train sets off and he slips onto the bench with the boys, instead choosing to look up at Loki for conversation with his butt firmly planted in a seat the whole time. Kevin complains that he's taking up too much space, Don cooly comments he needs to squish and deal with it (with love, of course, and a gentle elbow to the side). He does have to stand once they make their transfer, and he holds on for dear life with both hands the rest of the way but tries not to bring any attention to it. He's old, okay? Leave him alone.
The only rules Don leaves for Sean and Kevin once they get to the party - stay where I can see you, do not take anything from the punch bowls without asking first, and be polite. Pretty simple guidelines. It doesn't look like there are many kids here, and that worries him, but as long as Kevin doesn't figure out a way to set the place on fire it should be okay. Sean is an angel (mostly).
The introductions are fine. He likes meeting new people, casually dropping that he's a small business owner. At some point during these hellos a drink ends up in his hand and he mentally reminds himself not to get too crazy. Never mind the fact that one drink eventually turns into three, four... and why yes those are his kids. He's a single dad (in case you didn't know), and he's casually flirting like one, easily slipping right into the chat-ups some of the ladies are directing his way without much thought.]
[ Loki makes it a point not to laugh when Don finally sits. A smile offered down at him as the train moves. Standing holding the rail above him in that fine suit. He was happy like this, around Don and his boys. He always felt content around them, which was probably dangerous when he's nearly certain Don is completely straight. It's fine, he's happy being the man's best friend.
The rules the boys were given were simple, and Loki made sure to add, as he would at all functions, he would invite them too. If anyone gives them trouble, point them his way, or come get him.
Loki was leaning against the frame of one of the windows as the countdown was starting. Women were flirting hard with Don, a single dad, and looking as he did. Loki was a little jealous but hid it well. Chanting with the boys as they watched fireworks and the ball getting ready to drop. One of the ladies, an older woman, a brunette with white streaks of age in her hair, whispering to Don that she would love to be his midnight kiss. While another called out it was time, people coming towards the window as counting started, Loki shifted to stand behind the boys so no one would push them from the spot they had claimed for a while.]
Be sure to make a wish, both of you. Don't waste your new year's magic. [ A playful comment, but something Frigga used to say to him and Thor often on New Year's Eve. ]
[What an extremely unexpected change of pace - Sean and Kevin ringing in the new year with Loki instead of their father. Don is there with them, sure, but much too swept up by the various drinks and flirtations being flung his way. Flustered and flattered and most definitely distracted. He doesn't get out much, rarely has the chance to let go and ignore his responsibilities.
So here he is. Attempting to brush off this woman's advances, politely declining her offer for a New Year's Kiss. Hesitant to do so, maybe not being as firm as he should.
It happens anyway, this stranger telling him it's not a big deal. He's single, right? What's the harm? He's still wary, looking to step away, but finally shrugging and giving in. Booze on both of their lips and tongues as the countdown ends and the place erupts into cheers. It's not bad, but it's nothing special. He hasn't kissed anyone since...]
[ It was a strange change of pace, but one that Loki didnt mind in the least. Spending time with the boys had become a fun part of his time around Rosie's family.
The part he didn't like and didn't expect was the jealousy he felt flair up when he saw the woman kiss Don. Oh hell no. More so when Don looked at least a little uncomfortable.
Still he kept it to himself, and as the party died down he saw the woman trying to convince Don to come with her. He had stolen Don away at least once but this time he asked the boys to go collect their coats from the hostess. As he walked over, tapping Don's shoulder. ]
Don, we have to head out now. Time to get the boys to bed.

As I was saying, absolutely, Don, I would love that.
no subject
We can do that.
no subject
[ AND JOR.]
no subject
Just follows his friend wherever he leads.]
no subject
no subject
Then he tries covering everything up with a few compliments about how nice his house is.]
no subject
He expected a no, but still, he had to offer if only to see how Don reacted to his sweet boy.]
no subject
Maybe.
We’ll see.]
no subject
] I promise he is well-behaved.
no subject
...You call this a mess?
He's big.
no subject
I just wanted to have you meet the second of my beloved pets.
no subject
Hey there, little guy.
no subject
It is. ] I suppose when we get downstairs, we should look into making sure we are prepared before we call the Uber.
no subject
Hope you get your beauty rest, lil' bud. [He says this with a smile - a rather reluctant one, but it still counts dammit.
The quicker Don is out of the room the sooner he can get back to breathing. So he wastes zero time scooting to the door.]
It's a nice green. Perfect for winter. Makes you wanna curl up under a ton of blankets in that fancy bed of yours. [Wait! A thought.] No wonder you picked it.
[He's all smiles, thoroughly distracted from the snake. Thank goodness.]
Is it time already? Sure does fly when you're having fun.
no subject
Though, I agree, this and tonight will fly by.
no subject
It seems like he's always having at least some sort of fun when he's with Loki.]
no subject
All signs of Loki's hangover were gone.]
no subject
So where are we headed to again?
no subject
We will be fashionably late.
no subject
Thanks for takin' care of that. Appreciate it.
[There are trace flurries coming down from the darkening winter sky by the time they leave the car and head underground to catch their train. It's warm in the cars, just enough so they don't have to huddle together much. But it's busy and there are plenty of people heading to and from their own New Years' festivities that the lack of room prevents them from straying too far. All the better to keep the boys in his sight, really. They don't have the distraction of their video games for once.]
no subject
no subject
He's a single dad (in case you didn't know), and he's casually flirting like one, easily slipping right into the chat-ups some of the ladies are directing his way without much thought.]
no subject
no subject
So here he is. Attempting to brush off this woman's advances, politely declining her offer for a New Year's Kiss. Hesitant to do so, maybe not being as firm as he should.
It happens anyway, this stranger telling him it's not a big deal. He's single, right? What's the harm? He's still wary, looking to step away, but finally shrugging and giving in. Booze on both of their lips and tongues as the countdown ends and the place erupts into cheers. It's not bad, but it's nothing special. He hasn't kissed anyone since...]
no subject
The part he didn't like and didn't expect was the jealousy he felt flair up when he saw the woman kiss Don. Oh hell no. More so when Don looked at least a little uncomfortable.
Still he kept it to himself, and as the party died down he saw the woman trying to convince Don to come with her. He had stolen Don away at least once but this time he asked the boys to go collect their coats from the hostess. As he walked over, tapping Don's shoulder. ]
Don, we have to head out now. Time to get the boys to bed.
