[ Loki knows he's just giving him a hard time, he adored that about Don. ]
Fantastic to hear, and I will see you then.
[ Loki was off until the 2nd of January and had been out until nearly dawn. He knew Don and the boys were due there before in the afternoon but, he had slept through his alarm and only got up about a half hour before they were due. Seeing at least one missed message from Don letting him know they were on their way. A easy response returned. Rolling quickly from his warm bed, Loki started some coffee and took a quick shower. And took some painkillers to try to combat the hangover he hoped would ease up before anyone noticed.
Once he was in the suit he had laid out before he left last night and made his way back downstairs. Fenrir napping on the couch and a note from Gwen updating him on goodest boy's day. He knew he'd sleep through the morning, so of course he had her come walk Fenrir.
The Camaro was pulled forward to leave room for Don's van, while Loki worked on his coffee and tried to make himself look like he hadn't just rolled out of bed. ]
[The few days between Christmas and New Year's are the weirdest sort of liminal space. Don has gifted himself time off (for once). He's still preoccupied with wedding planning (of course) and ends up putting some effort into keeping on top of that despite the short vacation, but the shop is closed until the new year rolls in. The boys are still off from school and utterly enamored with the new Switches they got. The house still looks like the most festive bomb hit it. All-in-all - a rather good time.
And for the first time in a few years the Marcuses aren't celebrating New Year's Eve alone. Don sends a text before they leave the house and pile in the van. He forced the boys to dress as nice as possible, ensuring they're bundled up as well. The temperature is already low, but it's going to drop even more once the sun goes down. Possible snow in the forecast at some point? He's bundled accordingly as well - nice shirt and trousers underneath his heavy jacket. For once wearing shoes on his feet that aren't of the New Balance variety. He cleans up well.
They make decent time, despite the holiday traffic slowly becoming more pronounced along the way. It's been ages since he's been to the city - and honestly can't remember the last time the boys were there. If they ever visited at all? He's grateful for Loki having a driveway - it makes parking so much easier. And as soon as he pulls in, he reminds Sean and Kevin to leave everything in the car and grab their scarves just in case.]
[ Loki's house didn't really reflect much of the holidays, unless you count the green drapes and some holiday music playing on the kitchen's home assistant. He didn't have to wait to hear for the bell, as Fenrir tore through the house before Don ever parked and started barking.
His coffee in hand, Loki made his way downstairs to leave from the side door from the stoop. Coffee cup in hand, and Fenrir waiting like a good boy for the boys to come out. As soon as the door opens, he will be making his way over. Loki whistled before he could pounce and lick. The boys don't need to be knocked in the snow. ]
I hope the drive wasn't too bad. [ Loki knows how bad the drive is, but honestly? He just hoped Don and the boys didn't realize he's still fighting that hangover. ] You can head on inside, the doors cracked.
[ Loki was waiting for Don, of course, and if he brought overnight bags he'd help. Inside the door the house was warm, and smelled a bit of apple cinnamon, clearly a favored scent. A colorful rug led down a long hall that split off two rooms to one side, closets to another, and ended at a den. That was where Loki's game system was set up, a wrap around couch. A mini-bar against one wall, beside a set of sliding glass doors that lead into the small yard. ]
Nah, not bad at all. [Don brings up the rear, bags slung over his shoulder. No help necessary! The boys are already saying their hellos and Fenrir is so excited to see them - they are allowed to go off and play. They really adore that pup, and it warms his heart to see.]
Thanks for having us, Loke. It really means a lot. [He's all smiles, his breath visible in the cold afternoon air, his cheeks nice and rosy.]
Don't wander too far, guys. [Sure he brought the bags in, but the boys will be responsible for setting them down wherever they're invited to sleep. He leaves that mandate up to Loki. It's his house. Plus it just seems strange (to him) to wander around a new house unsupervised first thing.]
Amazing place you got here. It's just you and Fen?
Good to hear. [ Loki patted one of Don's shoulders as he motioned him on towards the door the boys had vanished through. It was the stoop door, so close to the trash cans, but it was the door he used most. ] Not a problem at all, I made the plan so it's the least I can do.
[ Making their way in, it was much warmer inside. The door opening to that long hall. Trying not to think of how rosy the man's cheeks were, or how that throbbing behind his own eyes was only just starting to ease up. Pulling the door shut and locking it back. ]
Thank you, Don. I am quite happy with it. Yes, it's me and Fen, but there is Jor upstairs of course. [ Don't forget his snake. ] These two rooms are free game. They are exactly the same. [ He admitted lower. ] Mother insisted on decorating them.
[ Just in the hall, three doors were in a row, which Loki had motioned too. The only difference in the two rooms was the direction of the beds and one had a window facing the street. In between the two rooms was the guest bath.]
There is also a pull-out sofa down this way that may be used as well. [ Taking a drink of his coffee as Fenrir ran back, barking once as if to get Loki's attention. He had been distracted by the boys, super happy, but still hungry. Dad forgot to feed the boy. Loki knows that bark. ] I should go feed this one real quick, it slipped my mind. But feel free to get settled, I will be back down shortly, unless you want to come up and see where the kitchen is.
[ He doesn't have company often, not company who doesn't know his rules and where everything is anyway. ]
[The bags are set down at his feet once he's safely inside the house, nodding as he listens and takes an initial look around. It's plenty spacious (and swanky enough) for one human and a dog plus--]
Jor? [Don freezes. He forgot. How could he forget?] He's in your room... right? [Please say yes. He doesn't want to freak out, even though he already kinda is. On the inside.
Everything else is put on hold until he gets answers because Don doesn't want to spend the night somewhere with a snake, secure tank or not. It's a phobia thing, one he could've sworn he mentioned before.]
[ It was very swanky, and had touches of a female hand all around. As well off as Loki was, he'd be happy with a couch, a bed and his game system. His mother? Absolutely not letting her boy live like a heathen.
Loki had only taken a few steps before he heard Don's tone, looking back he stepped closer, the boys likely getting curious since puppy ran to Loki. ] He's not, no. He is in my office up on the third floor. Which is the only room off limits. I have paperwork on a merger sitting out up there.
[ Did it hurt that people were scared of his sweet boy? Yes. Was he used to it? Yes. But, Don's comfort was more important at the moment. ] I can show you around if you want. We have an hour or so before we need to head out.
[Swanky and neat and orderly. The exact opposite of Don's own home. Kind of intimidating if he keeps his thoughts on it - which is partially why he changes the subject to snake. And yes, he's truly afraid of them. So it's a win-win in terms of a distraction.]
Oh! Good. Okay. [A nervous flutter of a laugh. But at least he's laughing and letting go of that breath he'd been holding in. Utterly relieved by this information.]
Uh - yeah, sure. Lemme just get the little monsters all figured out and you can take me wherever. [A brief flash of a smile for Loki before he turns his head and yells:] Sean! Kevin! C'mon guys, gonna show you where you're sleepin'. [He can handle that on his own, handing off the boys' bags to either of them before releasing them to get back to playing with the dog. It's amazing how easy it is to keep them occupied nowadays. All it takes is a pet and a new video game apparently.]
[ One day, Don would learn that Loki's not actually that fond of the common areas of the house. His bedroom and office were his favorites. The rooms he didn't let his mother help with. Don's house felt lived in, Loki's felt like a museum, just like the manor. ]
Wonderful. [ Part of him wanted to pat Don on the shoulder and let him know it would be okay. Jor was a sweetheart, still, he knew how this goes. Frigga had screamed and jumped on the couch when she first saw little Jor in the tank. It used to be in his sitting room. Thor had helped move the large tank up to his office to spare Frigga. ] I'll be right up the steps.
[ He promised as Fen was starting to whine and paw at his suit pants. A nod to the boys as he made his way up the stairs with the dog in tow. Which as soon as Loki had opened the can and poured it onto Fenrir's bowl the dog devoured it and was back downstairs before Loki could refill his coffee cup. The boys would have company until it was time to go. Fenrir was just super excited.
Loki was leaning on the counter, nursing his second cup of coffee. Normally he might go back downstairs but, he was used to people knowing what he expected, and his hangover demanded more caffiene as he waited in the kitchen. The only real personal touches in the kitchen was a Nespresso. The sitting room had heavy emerald drapes with sheer light green drapes under it over both windows. A simple sofa and a framed samsung TV looking like Starry Night on it. A small coffee table before it. That was where Loki called Don from more than once. ]
[Don wouldn't scream or jump. Maybe he'd cast a weary eye towards the creature, not wanting to look away in case Jor disappeared out of his enclosure (and came straight for him). But he'd keep his fear mostly under wraps unless direct contact is made. Not like Loki's mother at all.
So it's fine. Totally fine. He's going to keep telling himself it's fine.
It doesn't take very long for the boys to get settled. Don isn't even sure they're listening to him when he talks, but hey - he took care of it, didn't he? He's done his part. Whether or not they retain the info for later is their problem. He just hopes he doesn't have to be a mean dad on a holiday. He should have the day off entirely.
Once the kids claim their beds and set their bags down and yeah dad him to death - he's turning them loose to go find the dog. And then he's heading back to meet Loki, choosing not to comment on the apparent hangover his friend has been nursing. It's pretty obvious, but not his place. If anything, he'll nag about water later on before they head to the festivities.]
[ Loki probably should be drinking some water, but he needed his morning coffee before he could even pretend to be human. The painkillers should kick in too. If Don and the boys weren't there, he would have slept another hour and spent time with the snake. But Jor could have some love tonight. He still had yesterday's mouse digesting, so he was fine. He still expected Don to react like Frigga, and those merger papers were all that protected Don from him letting the boys see Jor.
With three spots to sleep, one being a very nice couch that shifts to a bed without a bar in the middle of one's back, they would probably all be comfortable. At least Loki hoped so. With the boys and Fenrir playing happily downstairs, Don was finally free of dad duties for a few minutes, he would find Loki still in the kitchen. Looking up, trying his best to not scream hung over, which Don already could see was failing. ]
Want some coffee? [ He didn't have a lot to offer at the house, despite how nice his kitchen was. Nursing his coffee a moment before adding. ] We can either drive to the train station, or I can call an Uber when it is time, it will be too cold once the sun sets.
Y'sure you'd be okay driving, Lokes? [The slightest squint.] Just how late were you out last night, huh? [There it is. Accompanied by a shit-eating grin. Don couldn't resist! Loki did this to himself. He wanted to behave, but...]
I could go for a cup. [To get the chill out.] You need to hydrate if you haven't already.
[He doesn't need to mention the fact that Loki's hangover will only be compounded later on in the evening... since it is New Year's after all. Don has the boys with them, so he's silently accepted his role as the designated sober adult. If Loki wants to indulge, he can.]
Uber it is. [ Loki chuckled when Don called him out. That grin didn't even look guilty as he motioned don over to choose whatever cup he wanted. The Nespresso machine already ready, all Don had to do was pick the flavor he wanted.] I am pretty sure the sun was rising when I got dropped off this morning. I don't have many nights like this.
[ Okay, he parties a bit on Fridays, usually just to try to find someone to enjoy for a few hours, but rarely with being out until dawn when he knew he had plans. Opening the fridge he pulled a bottle of water out. Don was right. ] Good point, I will work on that. Oh, and if you want cream or such, the cream is in the fridge, sugar cubes next to the coffee maker.
[ Loki looked Don over a second, before something clicked. ] Those aren't your normal shoes.
[HE KNEW IT. Past experiences plus his innate dad senses equal... figuring out your bestie was definitely out late getting shitfaced. Before he admits to getting home at sunrise, of course. He (mentally) called it seconds before.]
You? A party animal? I woulda never guessed. [He's only half-kidding about that. Because yes there are some signs... but Loki doesn't seem like the extroverted type. Not from what he's seen. Then again, the time they have together isn't spent doing the most exciting things. They indulge in rather passive activities - cooking, gossiping, having a few beers to unwind. Personally? Don enjoys that. And he thought Loki did too.]
Good, good. [He gestures towards the water bottle, then ends up pointing right at Loki before making his way to grab a cup of coffee.] We need you in decent shape for tonight.
[And he stops mid-step at the comment on his shoes.]
Hm, what? [Don glances down, then laughs a bit.] Oh - these old things? [He sticks a leg out to better show off the shoe.] Barely get to wear 'em. I figured this was the perfect occasion. [A pause. Suddenly worried about his ensemble.] Do they look alright with this?
[ Oh, Loki had a feeling Don clocked that hangover the moment Loki walked outside to meet them. Would he say it? No, but his buddy knew him pretty well. ]
Not even close. [ He couldn't help the amusement in his tone. Loki wasn't the extrovert of the family, no. But, he had needs, and it was an easy enough way. Show up, look pretty, sweet talk someone into the back of a cab and leave before dawn. Days at Don's were so much better. He felt he could breathe and enjoy life. ] I don't even like most people.
[ Yes, Don is special. ] Once the painkillers kick in, I will be right as rain. I am not blessed with my family's tolerance. [ An angry voice in his head whispering he's not their family.
Luckily, Don distracted him from that train of self loathing. Blinking a bit, taking a drink of the water before looking Don over. Feeling he had permission. He was such a lovely man. How was he still single? ] I was playing, Don. You look fantastic, you will certainly have many eyes on you tonight.
[ Says the man in the pretty blue suit. Don looked better in his eyes, he put in effort yes, but he was always beautiful. ] I will find more reasons for you to wear them.
Uh huh. [Not even close? His eyebrows go up. Something isn't adding up here, and he's not buying Loki's story at all. But Don also keeps his comments to himself. He wasn't the type to share his late night exploits when he was younger either. It's none of his business really. Hangovers happen.]
A real lightweight, huh? [He smiles.] I'd say you're better off that way. Too much booze isn't the best idea sometimes.
[In his older age he's learned this the hard way.]
I am aware I clean up pretty well for an old man. [He laughs, helping himself to a mug and picking up the coffee pot to pour some.] Don't exactly got an eye for fashion though. [Hence the uncertainty about the shoes with this ensemble. He used to have Rosie's when it came to nicer outfits. Now he just holds onto the things she told him and commented on when she was still here.]
Oh yeah, they're just gonna fawn over me. [A playful eyeroll as the pot is set back down. No cream or sugar - he takes the first sip as is to gauge if it needs anything.] I'll hafta fight 'em all off with a stick.
[Hmmm. No, it needs cream. He's already feeling rather comfortable in the new space - but it's mostly because Loki is there with him. He goes for the fridge, keeping up the conversation while he goes through the motions.]
What, more fancy parties or something? [An offhand question as he adds some cream to the mug.] A nice dinner at a super ritzy place? [He's just rattling off random ideas, entirely unaware.]
[ Loki raised an eyebrow, but didn't say anything. He knew he was weird. An antisocial being who needed people. The worst. It just meant he ran real hot and cold. Don luckily hasn't really seen him go cold on anyone yet. There is a reason Kate handles a lot of what he's supposed to do. ]
Sadly, yes. Something Thor does love to exploit. [ Shaking his head despite the easing pain. As he watches Don move around the space. It's nice to see him comfortable already. ] That my friend, I learned in college, trust it is not a lesson easily forgotten.
[ Arching a brow before a playful grin. ] You say that like it is a bad thing, you're not that old, Don. And you do have an eye for it, you may just not believe it yet. You pick complimentary colors to put together, just like the bouquets you make. Fashion may be stupid, but some rules stay the same. You look very nice, and that is not me fluffing your ego.
[ He thinks Don looks dashing, but he also enjoys Don in his new balances. ] I am going to remind you of this tomorrow. We will see who was right.
[ Loki knows this crowd, he doesn't count them as friends, but he knows some of the women have the same taste in men that he does. ] Either would be fun, get you out of your element.
[ It went over his head so for once he didn't get embarrassed. ]
I'm sure Thor could drink anyone under the table. [Just look at him! Don doesn't know the first thing, but given the context clue Loki just shared... He's the kind of guy who can definitely hold his alcohol. Like Don used to.]
I never said fashion was stupid! [He sounds hurt by this. Just a little.] I think it's cool. Not really my thing, but it feels great to look good once in a while. Wear something nice and classy.
[Just like Loki. He's always wearing something nice. Maybe this was an attempt to one-up him or at least be on his level for once? The way Don scoured through the back of his closet for something that still fit and looked decent on him after the last few years of polos and boring button-downs and cargo pants.]
Mm, I dunno. [A shrug as he tries his modified coffee. Much better. He leans against the counter as he sips away, trying not to laugh. And blush. Loki really thinks he'll be that much of a hit at the party? Alright...] Remind me tomorrow, yeah. [Famous last words.]
I'd be open to both. It's been such a long time since I've actually gone anywhere.
Oh, he can. I've seen it more than once. He's very proud of that one. [ Loki had a feeling that Thor was going to pull the 'keep up with me, brother' at the reception. There is a reason hes taking off the day after already. While he'll be fucked up, Thor will be fine. ]
I didn't mean you did, my apologies, I've never been a fan of fast fashion, I should say. Give me the classics and I am happy. [ He motioned to his suit and then to Don. That hurt sound Don's voice had hurt more than the easing hangover. He had to fix it.] And classy. Much better than some of the things my sister has emailed me.
[ Don looked amazing, it was part of why he was okay to give the compliments. Look at him. Beautiful.
Nudging Don's shoulder with his. ] Oh, I will be, shall we make a bet of it?
[ Loki NO. ] Then, my friend, you have given me a fun challenge. We will get you out of the house and the shop more and have fun. Just us, or with the boys, either way is fine.
[Thor definitely seems the type! Don just laughs at the idea. The way he carries on after a victory on the football field - yeah, he's the party guy. Might as well enjoy it while he can.]
What makes fashion... fast? [Don is clueless. He's never heard of the term before, and it's probably a stupid question to ask - but he asks it anyway.] Your sister, yeah - [He gestures towards Loki with his mug.] - you mentioned she's a designer. Not your cup of tea?
[He's still blushing, attempting to hide the fact. A frown making an appearance.] A gentlemen's bet, I hope. [Because he'll probably lose and he isn't exactly made of money. Or in the mood to do something embarrassing.
The idea of going out more softens him up a little, gets him to stop worrying about potential cougars pouncing him at the party later on. He has friends, sure, but they're all so busy with their families and their kids - just like he is - and no one can spare the extra time to just... exist. Have fun. Do whatever. It's not like it used to be. (And the last thing Don wants to think is that losing Rosie has something to do with everyone's... removed behavior over time).]
Really? You'd do that? [Be seen with him? That's what he almost asks.]
[ In time, Don will come to know. Rosie had probably only ever seen Thor once or twice. When he'd blow on the horn to hurry Loki up or walk in and pull his brother out with a wide grin. At least before the big blow up. ]
Fast fashion is when they take the latest trends and mass produce them even without much interest for them. It wastes a lot of resources and hurts the environment. And before you say it, yes, I know my car hurts it too, but not as much as a landfill full of Gucci shirts. [ Loki explained, clearly an argument he had had before. Yet he sounded amused as he alternated drinks between his water and coffee. Clearly the painkillers or water was helping. He seemed amused all the same. ] Oh, not at all, we get on alright, but we are practically strangers. I know my brother-in-law better than her, all she cares about is her job.
[ All three of the Odinson siblings were career focused, Loki just didn't rant about work outside of work, unless his father pissed him off. ] Of course, a gentlemen's bet. I can't always con you into feeding me, Don. You might think I was using you for your cooking.
[ A playful response as he pushed a lock of his hair back into place. The cougars would be waiting, but, were they really cougars to Don? He may be their age or older. Either way, Loki was looking forward to seeing how tonight goes.
The sound of the boys chatting and playing with Fenrir got louder as the puppy was leading them upstairs, in the corner of the dinning room attached was a basket full of the dogs toys. ] If you play with the ball, take it in the backyard.
[ That was the only rule he gave. He had far too much glass for that. But fen loved his tennis balls and playing fetch. A deck was beside the counter where Don and Loki were leaning that they could use to get to the back yard if they didn't run back downstairs.
Looking back to Don he nodded.]
As I was saying, absolutely, Don, I would love that.
'mnot sayin' a word! [Don laughs over the lip of his mug, taking sips while he listens to his lesson. See - this is good. Casual conversation. And yes, he does spy Loki hydrating like he's supposed to. All is well.] Eh - some people are married to their work. It happens. [A rather pointed look in Loki's direction. Sure he doesn't talk about work much... but there are signs. As if Don could get away with it either. He's the one running his own business solo...
Maybe they're both guilty of working too much.]
But what if I like feeding you? [A slight frown.] Don't exactly get any sorta feedback from my kids. They just eat or don't. Kinda thankless once I think about it. [He feigns thinking, leaning back against the counter, looking up towards the ceiling.] ...Yeah they'd rather just have pizza every meal. Zero appreciation for a good filet mignon prepared just right.
[He grins a bit at that, turning away to top off his mug with a bit more coffee from the pot. It's still pretty warm. Good enough.
But then there's the commotion from nearby and he adds to Loki's announcement:] Yeah guys. Go on outside. This ain't your house. We're company here.
[Kevin and Sean are so quick to do as they're told, saying thanks as they rush on by with the dog on their heels. Don rolls his eyes a bit, but ends up laughing anyway as they head out onto the deck. His gaze lingering on the door and the playful scene.]
They love him so much. [His expression softens, and then he turns back to rejoin the conversation.] Okay. It's a plan, then. We can do that.
Mmhm. [ He doesn't believe Don, but the comeback is playful. Maybe if he had Don around in the mornings, his minions would not think he was the devil at work. Arching a brow at the look Don gave him and that comment. ] Pot meets Kettle, much?
[ Loki KNOWS Don works too hard. Another drink of his water before he offered a smile Don's way. ] How can I say no to that? They might not appreciate that, but I certainly do. One day they will learn what they are missing, for now, I am happy to offer feedback.
[ Which was, usually, just reaching for more of something. As skinny as he is, he eats a lot. ] I'm not that picky, I just don't want the glass broken. Might be nice to have a bit of a mess here. [ He wants his home to feel lived in. Don's house has the most inviting feeling. Probably Rosie's touch, but Don gets credit. ] They do, and I for one am happy for it. They have the energy to keep up with him.
[ Loki wasn't low energy at all, but those boys? They have energy to spare. ] I will send you more information when I gather some. For now, I offered to show you around, but this is mostly it. Though, I could show you upstairs if you want? Lovely view up there.
[Okay, okay. It was a low blow and he knows it. The workaholics are in the kitchen right now aren't they? Don just grins.]
Great! You're also signing up to be my guinea pig by the way. Because I wanna try some new stuff in the new year. Been checking out a lot of cooking sites lately.
[He rolls his eyes at the glass comment.] And I don't want them to break any glass - believe me. I deal with enough of that at home. You don't need them comin' in here like a coupla tornadoes. It's rude. They should know better.
[But yeah. At least Fenrir loves them, and they love Fenrir. And their growing friendship is more than adorable to witness in real time. Maybe he was being a jerk not letting his kids have their own dog when they asked...]
Sure, yeah. Whatever you want. Lemme just - [He holds up his mug, then takes a final sip before leaving it behind on the counter. Near a rather familiar-looking box. He's surprised he didn't notice it before - the tea box he had given Loki for Christmas. It makes him smile, but he says nothing. Just follows his friend wherever he leads.]
Don, the day I say no to your cooking, I will give you my doctor's number. Call and have me committed. [ He teased playfully. Yeah, he's feeling better. And no, he wasn't actually giving Don his doctor's number. Not when he's sure his doctor and Don know each other, absolutely not.
Shaking his head he kept his cup as he pushed off the counter. He didn't expect Don to put his down either. But the tea was there, he had found a place for it the moment he got home. Leading them through the kitchen to the dining room. Heavy drapes hid the large windows, the space rather dark compared to the rest. ] This was orginally the sitting room, but as you saw, I have that downstairs, more space, and easier for Fenrir to run as he wishes.
[ Loki didn't want Don to think he thought the boys would break anything so he just let that go. He knew how he was as a boy and that was enough.] Up these stairs is the third floor. Come along, the laundry is up here in case you end up needing it. Fenrir can get quite muddy and likes to jump.
[ Don clearly knew that by now, Fenrir had a habit for finding mud. The steps were black with dark wood.
This stairwell seemed to be the only place with photographs instead of art or Thors jersey. A few pictures on the wall leading up. The first one, is clearly him and Frigga at his college graduation. She was in a stunning gold dress, kissing his cheek. His hair short with his natural dark wild curls. A few feet higher, was him and Thor, teenagers and blond haired and tanned, a beach trip. Arms throw over each other's shoulders grinning, looking mischievous as hell.
Further up is a selfie, Loki with his hair about shoulder-length, wavy, and blond. Loki was clearly much younger, leaning his head against Rosie smiling up at the camera. She looked happy too, clearly having just laughed at something. In the fourth and final picture at the top of the stairs, he was standing with Thor, Frigga kneeled between them wearing a floral sundress. Both looked between ten and twelve. Loki's short dark hair contrasting with Frigga and Thor's blond. Both boys in matching suits with a school emblem on them, Frigga looking proud as she held her sons. Thor looked excited, while Loki looked subdued.
Reaching the top of the steps he stepped aside waiting for Don. Taking a drink of his coffee, a door behind him, which was the mentioned laundry room. Another sign of life? There was a sock stuck under the door where Loki had kicked it closed earlier. Two other doors could be seen right away at the top of the stairs. One open, dark green paint visable, and another the door closed. ]

[The few days between Christmas and New Year's are the weirdest sort of liminal space. Don has gifted himself time off (for once). He's grateful for Loki having a driveway - it makes parking so much easier. And as soon as he pulls in, he reminds Sean and Kevin to leave everything in the car and grab their scarves just in case.]

It's just you and Fen?
no subject
no subject
It's a phobia thing, one he could've sworn he mentioned before.]
no subject
Loki had only taken a few steps before he heard Don's tone, looking back he stepped closer, the boys likely getting curious since puppy ran to Loki. ] He's not, no. He is in my office up on the third floor. Which is the only room off limits. I have paperwork on a merger sitting out up there.
[ Did it hurt that people were scared of his sweet boy? Yes. Was he used to it? Yes. But, Don's comfort was more important at the moment. ] I can show you around if you want. We have an hour or so before we need to head out.
no subject
Oh! Good.
All it takes is a pet and a new video game apparently.]
no subject
no subject
If anything, he'll nag about water later on before they head to the festivities.]
no subject
[ Despite his hangover, he still loves to talk. ]
no subject
I could go for a cup. [To get the chill out.] You need to hydrate if you haven't already.
[He doesn't need to mention the fact that Loki's hangover will only be compounded later on in the evening... since it is New Year's after all. Don has the boys with them, so he's silently accepted his role as the designated sober adult. If Loki wants to indulge, he can.]
no subject
[ Okay, he parties a bit on Fridays, usually just to try to find someone to enjoy for a few hours, but rarely with being out until dawn when he knew he had plans. Opening the fridge he pulled a bottle of water out. Don was right. ] Good point, I will work on that. Oh, and if you want cream or such, the cream is in the fridge, sugar cubes next to the coffee maker.
[ Loki looked Don over a second, before something clicked. ] Those aren't your normal shoes.
no subject
[A pause. Suddenly worried about his ensemble.] Do they look alright with this?
no subject
[ Oh no. ]
no subject
[He's just rattling off random ideas, entirely unaware.]
no subject
no subject
It's been such a long time since I've actually gone anywhere.
no subject
Just us, or with the boys, either way is fine.
no subject
That's what he almost asks.]
no subject
As I was saying, absolutely, Don, I would love that.
no subject
We can do that.
no subject
[ AND JOR.]
no subject
Just follows his friend wherever he leads.]
no subject
